INTERPRETATION PLANNING

Tim is a world renowned Interpretation Planner and has delivered highly successful and acclaimed projects across the UK, Europe, the Middle East (MENA Region), and the USA.

Interpretive Planning is complex and the initial stage in the planning and design process. Like all journeys it can be fraught with misdirection, temptations and distractions, and if we stray off the path we may never reach our destination.

The role of Interpretation Planner is to understand your vision, plot a course for how to realise it, and to coordinate creative delivery teams (i.e. to hold everyone's feet to the fire) to ensure you reach your goal.

In 1993, Tim led the development of Dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum in London that still sees around 4 million visitors each year, he also authored the NHM's Book of Dinosaurs, published in over 20 languages. In 2000, Tim was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours for his work with UK faith communities to develop the Faith Zone and the Millennium Dome.

Recently, Tim led the creative teams that masterminded the move and transformation of the Design Museum London to Kensignton. The Design Museum was awarded European Museum of the Year 2018.

The Process

Discovery

Firstly it is about understanding your audiences, what they already know, how they like to be spoken with, and what assets you have to work with.

Development

Secondly, it is the process of developing versatile and robust strategies for telling stories and conveying information, ideas and values through space and time (during a visit to a particular place) using words, objects, images, media, the environment and technologies.

Delivery

Finally, Interpretation Planning is about transforming your creative vision into crystal clear briefing materials and picking the right team to delivery them.
